As I arrived at the Baden-Baden station it just began to rain. I could not have picked a more perfect three days to spend in that magnificent city.
I hoped on a the train to Karlsruhe, only a 28 minute ride where I changed trains for Munchen (Munich.) That train took about 3 hours and I sat with 7 men from the Deutsches Museum for Aeronautics. They were all very nice and social and all experts in some field of air travel including space. Thomas who sat next to me was so chatty after he found out I was from New York so for about an hour he just went on and on in the nicest way about all the places he'd visited in the US including New York, Boston, Washington, LA, Vegas and New Orleans. He was just so excited to talk about his adventures there with his family. And he was very kind to carry my suitcase off the train and show me where I should go and where not to while I waited. I could tell his friends were making eyes because he was so chatty with me but he has a girlfriend who has an 11 year old son. So no, he was not flirting, he was just so happy to talk about America. He even ended our conversation by saying, the the sweetest way, God Bless America.
Munich, or what I was able to see of it in a few hours walk is lovely with some great architecture. I didn't get any good pictures because it was getting dark. I did sit in this town center area which reminded me a lot of Prague combined with Rome and Dublin. Lots of great stores and just people out everywhere eating at outdoor cafes or just strolling with family. Really nice to see kids out and about with their families enjoy the night and not playing on their video games.
I found a place called Coffee Fellows, Germany's version of Starbucks and just sat and caught up on emails and the blog. So all in all a nice day and a quick, but good visit to Munich.
