I woke up to the most glorious sunshine this morning and after breakfast headed out to the bus station only a few blocks away from my hotel. The sun held out most of the trip until about a half hour before we reached Karlovy Vary. The countryside looks exactly the same as I remember it from four years ago and it's so exciting to be back in the Western part of the country in this gorgeous 654 year old thermal spa town.

I arrived at about 1:00pm and took the number 2 public bus six stops to the hotel Sanssouci. It's a spa resort a little ways outside the city center area. It's large and has an indoor pool, sauna, whirlpool, hot/cold therapy foot pools and several restaurants. My friend Elke who flew in from Copenhagen today found this place on line and speaking German she was able to put together this package so we have room, breakfast and dinner buffet and 6 spa treatments as well as use of the pool facilities so it's great. And it's also helpful that she speaks German because not everyone here speaks English. Karlovy Vary is inhabited mostly by guests from Russia but the people working in hospitality generally speak German as well as Czech and Russian. Germany borders the country so it's natural that they speak that language as well.

This afternoon was spent at the pool and in the sauna and just relaxing and the dinner buffet turned out to be great with lots and lots of veggie choices as well as other yummy Czech and Russian specialties.
I am looking forward to getting into the town center area tomorrow and walking around in a city I adored on my first visit four years ago and am just so happy to be able to make another visit.
