Tunstall, UK - The First Snow

Today started out as most days do here in Tunstall, vacuuming, mopping, feeding the furry ones, etc. And even the afternoon proved mostly the same with a nice walk to a field nearby and Teddy running and jumping and foraging in the grass for critters.  The sun even shone for most of the day although the air was crisp and I had to wear my gloves and really bundle up.

But, in the evening, around 9:00pm tonight I looked up from my computer our the large Kitchen window to see a few small flakes drifting into the garden and at first I thought it was just a few stray leaves flying about but a few minutes later, as I looked up once again, I saw what was unmistakably snow wafting down from the heavens and gracing us with it's fluffy perfection. I can say perfection since I'm in the country and don't have to rush out in it or take a cross town bus home in the slush and mud that inevitably comes with snow fall in NYC.

I got Teddy up and we went out to the garden to watch the snow come down. It was very cold and I stood there just watching it come down and seeing the stars high above twinkling between the sparse curtain of flakes. Teddy was enjoying the sight as well but more so because he got to run around and try and eat them.

I brought Ollie out in my arms as he was anxiously waiting by the door. He looked up in amazement at the slightly damp flecks that were landing on his adorable white face. His big blue eyes just stared up at the sky and then at me as if to say "But what is this strangely mesmerizing stuff?" Or, may like Teddy, he was thinking they're something you can eat and would I give him permission to do so.

As I marveled at the snow and just enjoyed watching it fall so softly to the ground I looked over to my right and over the garden fence I saw the first house in the neighborhood to have their Christmas lights on. I took a picture but it's too dark to see the house only the blue and white triangle of neatly strung lights.

This was so exciting and I got a few pictures after bringing Ollie back into the house of the falling snow and of Ollie and the Sooty Cat sitting by the window watching me outside.

Also a little earlier in the day I got the sweetest picture of Ollie and Gweni on my lap snuggled together and then one later on of the Sooty Cat napping on my leg.

But now as I type this at 10:10pm the snow has stopped and there is no real sign anywhere outside that it even had been but the furry and and I know what we saw and felt and that's all the matters.
