It was a gorgeous day with lots of sun and a nice warm breeze. People were out wearing light clothing and most having shed all warm layers.
After a nice breakfast at my hotel I walked the 10 minutes to the busy Bari Centrale Train station for my 8:38am train direct to Venice St. Lucia station. It was an incredible just over 7 hour trip most of the time spent along the coast. We passed gorgoous blue water and seaside resorts and shipping towns including the following that we actually stopped at
Barletta, Foggia, Termoli, Pescara Centrale, Ancona, Pesaro, Rimini,. Bologna Centrale, Ferrara, Rovigo, Padova, Ve. Mestre. There were so many more in between these stops that we zipped by and I imagine in August, the time most Italians take for their summer vacation, this entire area is packed with vacationers which would make getting on the beach impossible. So many sun bathers and even swimmers occupied the various beaches we passed and although I found it lovely weather and am wearing my open toe shoes I'm not sure I'd venture out in a bathing suit or for a swim in the chilly spring water.

I arrived in Venice just after 4:00pm and after a quick ride on the public ferry and a 10 minute walk down some winding streets, over several bridges I made it to my beautiful hotel right on the Grande Canal. I had found this amazing rate for the Hotel San Cassiano Ca'Favretto on hotels.com. When I arrived with several business men dragging their suitcases behind them behind me and they said they were just going to follow me since I seemed to know here I was going. I had drawn myself a map from the website so I kind of knew where to go. But in Venice you can get so easily turned around so I was glad I was able to get there so easily.

When I checked in it turned out the room I was booked into wasn't vacated yet because the person who was in it last night got sick and had to go to the hospital so they had to send me to their sister hotel, Palazzo Giovanell (and now I can say I stayed in a Venetian Palace on the Grand Canal) not far away and it was a 4 star hotel versus their 3 and there would be no extra charge so I didn't complain. The doorman took my suitcase and brought me back to where I had started my walk after the ferry and I had seen this hotel and thought how beautiful it was but certainly out of my price range so to find myself going into their lobby was very exciting. The Grand Canal is right out the back lobby entrance and so beautiful. They gave me a gorgeous room on the 3rd floor that's very luxurious
with an incredible bed and a beautiful marble bathroom. I just love it and can't believe I've been so lucky to now have been upgraded twice in my little adventure, so great.
I only spent a few minutes in the room because it's Venice and there is so much to see and do. But I love that my hotel is on the main Island which is a first for me. The other 3 times I've been to Venice I've always stayed on the Lido Island which I love but it's so much fun to just walk out your door and be in the middle of it all.

My walk took me to all new places I hadn't been before even though my last visits I felt like I'd walked the whole city. It's a small city but with all the tiny streets and little hidden parks and bridges and canals I don't think you could ever really walk down each street or ally or over every bridge even if you lived here for a year or so.
It was such a great day and I'm so thrilled to be here, it makes me incredibly happy. I'm not going to write about everything I see because I've done all that on my last visit in September. I'll just put all the pictures and them speak for themselves.
